HAAKSBERGEN, NETHERLANDS - JUNE 09: Cordon tape from the dutch police is marking a crime scene and forbidden to pass, june 09, 2011 in the Netherlands
With deep sorrow, we report the tragic passing of a slaughterhouse worker at the Van Rooi Meat factory in Helmond, Brabant, who lost his life in an industrial accident on Tuesday evening. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation, and his passing has left colleagues, friends, and the local community in shock.
The fatal accident occurred in a lift at the factory on Roggedijk around 9:30 p.m., prompting a response from two ambulances, police teams, fire crews, and an air ambulance, which ultimately did not land. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the worker was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities indicated that he was likely a migrant worker.

Forensic investigators and a team from the labour inspectorate have been gathering evidence to determine the cause of the incident. Reports by the labour inspectorate have previously highlighted that young migrant workers face increased risks in industrial settings, particularly during their first weeks of employment. Communication barriers, work in high-risk industries, and reliance on employers for accommodation contribute to the vulnerability of this workforce.
The community mourns the loss of this worker, and thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues, and all those affected by this tragedy. May his soul rest in peace, and may safety measures be strengthened to prevent future accidents.
