The family of Brooklyn Mallett, 15, daughter of Orange County firefighter Mike Mallett, is facing a devastating ordeal after a vehicle fire in the Utah desert on April 2, 2026, left her with severe injuries. The incident occurred while the family was traveling in a caravan back to their campsite in St. George, Utah, when one vehicle caught fire.
Brooklyn suffered burns to approximately 40% of her body, with her legs and one hand most critically affected. She was airlifted to a burn center in Las Vegas, where she has already undergone multiple surgeries and will require many more as part of a long recovery process.

A freshman in high school and a member of her school’s varsity dance team, Brooklyn’s road to recovery will involve extensive rehabilitation, with a hospital stay of at least two months anticipated. Her family, including her 17-year-old brother who witnessed the accident, is temporarily living in Las Vegas to remain by her side during this challenging time.
The Mallett family has received support through a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover medical expenses, travel, temporary housing, and long-term recovery costs. While Brooklyn’s life hangs in a delicate balance, her courage and spirit continue to shine, offering hope amid the trauma of this tragic accident.
May Brooklyn Mallett recover fully, and may her resilience inspire all who know her.
