CAPE TOWN, South Africa — A cyclist has been left critically injured following a serious crash involving a taxi along Victoria Road, near the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the taxi driver attempted to overtake multiple vehicles on a blind bend, colliding with a group of cyclists approaching from the opposite direction along the popular coastal road.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene. One cyclist suffered severe injuries, including significant leg trauma and internal injuries. Two doctors who were present immediately assisted, helping to stabilize the victim before an air ambulance transported him to a nearby hospital.
Despite efforts by medical teams to save his injuries, the damage to the cyclist’s leg was so severe that it had to be amputated. Doctors were, however, able to preserve his internal organs.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety on Victoria Road, a scenic but often dangerous route shared by motorists and cyclists.
Authorities have not yet released further details as investigations into the crash continue.
