With deep concern and growing sorrow, authorities in the Bahamas have transitioned from a search-and-rescue mission to a recovery operation for Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old American woman from Michigan who is believed to have fallen overboard during a boat trip on Saturday night. Her disappearance has left family members seeking answers and the community following the case with heavy hearts.
According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Lynette was traveling with her husband, Brian Hooker, 58, in a small 8-foot dinghy as they made their way from Hope Town to Elbow Cay, returning to their yacht. During turbulent weather and strong currents, Lynette reportedly fell from the boat. Her husband stated that she was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time and was quickly carried away by the current.
Brian told authorities that Lynette had been wearing the engine safety lanyard when she fell, which caused the boat to lose power. He attempted to paddle to shore but faced difficulty due to strong winds. The last time he reportedly saw her, she was swimming toward land before he lost sight of her in the rough conditions.
After drifting toward Marsh Harbour, Brian eventually reached shore around 4 a.m. Sunday and alerted authorities. A large-scale search operation was launched involving the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Despite extensive efforts, including hours of coordinated searching, Lynette has not been located.
As the search enters its fourth day, officials have now shifted to a recovery operation. Meanwhile, Lynette’s family has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance as they seek clarity and closure.
Lynette Hooker is remembered by loved ones as a cherished wife, family member, and friend whose absence is deeply felt. As efforts continue, thoughts and prayers remain with her family during this difficult and uncertain time.
